A Mainer’s take on the Japanese tea style genmaicha. Its sweet-and-savory aroma and nutty taste is warm and comforting. Like your favorite flannel.

Genmaicha is a traditional Japanese blend of green tea and toasted rice. In this version the green tea is traded for nutrient-dense kelp, resulting in a naturally caffeine-free pick-me-up.

Seaweed tea is good for you! Seaweeds contain around 60 trace minerals that are vital to human health -- notably iodine, potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium. What else is in there? Vitamins, plus omega-3 and omega-6, essential amino acids and antioxidants.

  • Ingredients: Toasted rice & kelp
  • Caffeine - free
  • 1.5 oz of loose-leaf tea in a resealable bag (servings: 15–20 cups)
  • Handcrafted by Heritage Seaweed in Portland, Maine.
  • Seaweed taste scale: High

Brewing: Pour boiling water over 1tsp of tea. Steep 4-5 minutes. Great plain or with honey.

Allergy info: Seaweed can occasionally contain very tiny shell fragments. Blended in a facility that also processes milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts & soy.

That nutty, toasted aroma hits you the moment the bag opens and it steeps up way darker than I expected for a green tea. The kelp gives it a savory depth that makes it feel like a proper meal in a mug, not just a beverage. Perfect for a cold afternoon when you want something cozy but not sweet.

The toasted rice and kelp blend steeps into a broth that’s genuinely comforting, not fishy at all. I’ve been sipping it on chilly afternoons where it warms you up like a thick flannel shirt. It’s become my new go-to when I want something savory instead of sweet.

The nutty, roasted aroma hits you right when the bag opens, and it steeps into a broth that’s genuinely cozy — like a warm flannel for your insides. I’ve been sipping it on cold afternoons and the sweet-savory balance is spot on for a 1.5 oz bag that lasts a good while.
